Portugal ranked world’s best country for digital nomads in 2022
Portugal has been scoring positively among the digital nomad community. Safety, cost of living and good internet connections are pointed out as positive factors.
When the pandemic has thrown many employees into teleworking, a significant number of people started to embrace the idea of reconciling a job with discovering a new country from where they can carry out their duties. And in the ranking for “Best countries to work from”, Portugal leads.
A visa just for digital nomads, the population’s high English proficiency, the country being politically stable, without violence and a pleasant climate are some of the factors listed by Kayak.fr to place Portugal at the top of a list. Through its “Voyages et Travail Index”, the site analysed around 111 countries, according to 22 factors, determining which were the best for working remotely. From a score of zero to 100, Portugal scores 100.
Spain (93), Romania (92), Mauritius and Japan, both with a score of 90 out of 100, complete the top-5 most attractive countries for digital nomads, according to Kayak.fr.
However, this is not the only list where Portugal has been scoring positively among the digital nomad community. The Nomad List – which brings together the contributions of a community of over 37,000 digital nomads – highlights several Portuguese cities on a list of thousands of cities around the world evaluated by the community on parameters such as cost of living, internet or safety.
Overall, Lisbon tops the list, with Porto in the 4th position. Madeira – where the first digital nomad village started operating a little over a year ago – is in 15th position. Ericeira (16th), Lagos (71st) and Portimão (87th) are ranking in the Top-100.
